Aramis Trace is a group of 8 worlds all within 1 parsec of each other.
A map of the worlds of the Aramis Trace. Centered on Aramis, the colored rings indicate distance in parsecs from Aramis.
The worlds of the Aramis Trace are all reachable by a Jump-1 ship. Leaving the Trace requires at least a J-2 drive, or additional fuel tankage for multiple jumps. (Demountable, collapsible, or drop tanks, e.g.) Deep space refueling can be done, but usually only by the Imperial Navy at hidden locations. Commercial traffic rarely uses it these days (though in the early years of expansion into the Spinward Marches, it was not an uncommon practice with the locations of the fuel depots a carefully guarded secret).
One of the important features of the Spinward Marches in the Spinward Main. A small part of the main is shown on the map in yellow highlight. The Spinward Main is a chain of 223 of the Marches' 431 worlds that are all reachable by a Jump-1 ship. This was important in the early days of the Imperium when Jump-1 ships were more available and economical. These days non-military ships often have J-3 or J-4 drives that opens almost the entire sector to them.
The Great Rifts coreward and rimward of the Marches still form a barrier to travel even to Jump-6 ships. The Spinward Marches are on the spinward side of the rifts from the main body of the Imperium, and only passage through Deneb and then Corridor sectors allows travel there.
The L'Sis Main lies primarily in the Pretoria subsector of the Deneb sector to trailing. It is a small main of 18 worlds.
The Towers Cluster to coreward contains to the high population worlds of Aramanx and Junidy with billions of beings right on the border with the Vargr Extents. Trade with various Vargr polities is brisk - partly from economics and partly to deter Vargr corsairs.
Imperial naval power is not much in evidence in the Cluster. The closest naval bases are on Aramis and Pretoria. The Navy appears to be worrying more about Zhodani threats to spinward and relying the Cluster to defend itself until help can arrive. The Scatters are the isolated worlds not on the Mains or the Cluster in Aramis subsector.

Aramis - A6B0556-B(Aramis/Spinward Marches)
Classifications: Desert, Hellworld, Non-Industrial, Twilight Zone, Subsector Capital Importance: 2 A non-industrial desert world located in the Aramis Subsector of the Spinward Marches. Aramis is a member of the Imperium, is the capital of the subsector, and contains both a naval and scout base.
Primary industries: Subsector government, Naval and Scout Base support, Financial, Mining (ores and radioactives) for Rhylanor and Praetoria, Ship Maintenance and Overhauls at Naasirka Yards.
Government: Aramis is governed by the Marquis of Aramis, an Imperial noble. The current Marquis, 19th of the line, is Leonard Bolden-Tukera. The Marquis is titular head of the world government of Aramis; he owes direct fealty to the Count Knowln of Celepina (Celepina/Rhylanor). The Marquis is married to the Lady Arianne Tukera, heir to a large block of Tukera Lines stock. They have no children.
Environment: Orbiting an M9 VI subdwarf, one of the smallest red dwarves, despite orbiting at only 0.035 AU (6.5 million km), Aramis is a cold world. It's heavy flourine/sulfur-heavy corrosive atmosphere helps retain some heat. The world is also tidelocked, being so close to it's star and only orbits the star, it doesn't rotate. The heart of the bright face of Aramis reaches about -40C, while the dark side drops to -190C, with glaciers of solid CO2 under the swirling ochre clouds. Weather is complex, but not overly threatening. The nearly 50-atmosphere pressure and corrosive nature is, and the world was never considered economically viable for terraforming. However, the vast deposits of heavy metals and ores made it attractive for industry. The population lives primarily in one city underground away from the harsh climate.

Reacher - C9A8542-8(Aramis/Spinward Marches)
Reacher is a fluid world with an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Aramis Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Reacher, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperialknight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.
Reacher supports its economy by exporting simple organic compounds, produced naturally in its exotic atmosphere an gathered more cheaply than they can be synthesized elsewhere. The recent introduction of better synthesis technology into the subsector has reduced Reacher's market (Aramis and Patinir, once importers, now produce their own organics), and recent incidents of violence against offworlders have led the Travellers' Aid Society to declare Reacher an amber zone.

L'oeul d'Dieu - B98A510-B("Eye of God", ancient spelling "L'oeil de Dieu") (Aramis/Spinward Marches) A non-industrial water world located within the Aramis Trace in the Aramis Subsector of the Spinward Marches. L'oeul d'Dieu is a member of the Imperium and the system contains a Naval Base. Despite being an ocean world, there are still various areas of land. They are the peaks of several underwater mountain chains which dominate the main shelf areas, but provide almost 6 million square kilometers of relatively hilly terrain for occupation.
The dense atmosphere and oceans act as a very good heat trap ; so even with the slightly dimmer sun, it is much warmer, on the average, than Terra. Local weather is harsh, due to the lack of landmasses, large shelf areas, and the other factors mentioned above. Storms when they occur are large and persistent (hurricanes lasting for two or more weeks in the summer are relatively common!). As a consequence, most populations live in either undersea habitats or in spaces dug into the small mountainous land area. Olympia, the primary city is on the lee side of a large mountain area and the inhabitants have dug deep into the mountain and underneath, providing both sea level and undersea ports and berths for traffic.
The system was claimed by a group of Francophile Terran Revivalists in 302. Numerous forms of local life were farmed or carefully harvested. Export of live plants and animals, as well as pre-made dishes drawn from the best of the rapidly evolving local cuisine, were exported throughout the adjacent sectors. Within a century, L'oeil d'Dieu was one of the Marches' breadbaskets, with a population in the tens of millions and a booming economy.
Then about six hundred years ago (in 450) the ecology collapsed due to uncontrolled introduction of non-native species and by 460 seventy percent of the species were extinct. The economy collapsed, people left, those remaining fought a civil war, the Imperial Navy interdicted the system (and established a naval base there). Things were bad.
Eventually, the remaining families put aside their differences and formed the Cooperative, a new government that worked to rebuild the world. Obtaining financing through the megacorporation Sharurshid in 628, redevelopment began in earnest and by 930 the local ecology was on the road to recovery.
There has been much pressure to have the world opened up for increased settlement, but Sharurshid, fearing damage to the local ecosystem, has resisted. As of 1100, almost all interstellar trade is conducted through Sharurshid as per the treaty of 628. Visiting vessels must berth in the Speck traffic control zone. (Speck is the closer of L'oeil's two moons.) There are a series of facilities in and around Speck, primarily dedicated to cargo handling. The Cooperative has, in recent generations, begun to feel that their debts to Sharushid have been paid off and the goal appears to be independence from the megacorporation. Tukera and Akerut freighters carry the bulk of the trade that goes in and out of L'oeul.
Visiting L'oeil's surface is discouraged, due to the possibility of introducing some biohazard. Everyone on the planet can be contacted more or less instantly from Speck, anyway - and the weather makes it a less than ideal tourist destination. If travellers have the patience or need to put up with the quarantine procedures, they can ride a cargo lighter down to the planet.
The surface element of L'oeil's starport is 160km away from Olympia, at Cousteau. It is a large semi-automated facility. Olympia is the planet's main population center (50,000), with approximately 200 other settlements scattered over the other regions. Regular submarine and speeder services exist between the communities.
There is an extensive fiber-optic communications network, as well as a sonar based emergency signaling system. Radio and laser/maser uplinks are also based in storm sheltered facilities on some of the mountains.
L'oeil d'Dieu's primary export is foodstuffs, in various levels of preparation. Other products include diving suits, underwater lighting, sensor and life support systems, submersibles, computer software (e.g. climate and current modeling) and diagnostic test kits (e.g. rapid analysis of solutions). The latter are produced by small family concerns, usually to custom specifications - expensive, but of high quality.
